Letters to Betty
Friends and fellow committee members heralded Betty Baron's creativity and ability to command a room while hosting events. This page is dedicated to letters and cards sent to Betty from her friends and from those whose life she touched.
“Dear Betty:
I want to thank you so much for the cute little Easter-egg. I just never saw anyone as clever and artistic as you.
And it's just like Betty Baron to think of all the hostess-es and do all that extra work – uh-huh! I myself feel like a “slacker,” in regards to the work. And here, I intended to help so much.
I thought the luncheon this year was wonderful. You made a super-duper mistress-of-ceremonies (as Bud said.) You had that “casual-something” that made your audience feel “at ease” and “at home.”
Paula and Bud enjoyed everything, too. Bud was in Korea last year at the time the luncheon was held.
Happy Easter

Betty dear -
A few sweet words to tell you I’m thrilled as Loving decided to attend “your” luncheon today! You are a very energetic person – and --tanily presided more attractively than anyone ever has at the school! A masterpiece of lauding – if I’ve ever seen one! The table decorations were super and I know Karen and Lou will be very excited over their convertible and “egg-head”dolly. They both caused quite a furore when I got back to the office!
Again orchid to the gal with roses in her bonnet - ! Hope to see you before the school next year!
Affectionately
June P. Walther”
“Dear Betty – Chalk up another “smash hit” to your credit 5-7 I loved every minute of your party – “Your Words.” Brannon James and especially MR. MILLER’S enlightening and interesting speech. I ph[one]d Lydia Koch to tell her we missed her; and her first words were “I’m sure it was another successful Betty Baron Party.” Sincere words from a faithful member.
Will be seeing you Tues. Love in which June Joins

Dear Mr. and Mrs. Baron:
I thank both of you ever so much for all of your kindness and thoughtfulness extended to me on January 8. For inviting me to your lovely home for a most delicious dinner and for the wholesome fellowship with both of you and your lovely friends.
Mr. Baron I thank you ever so much for coming to my house and picking me up in order to give me a chance to spend an enjoyable day with you folks.
Betty, it was most interesting to me to see how ceramics are made. You really have a lovely work-shop and it sure was a treat to me to have a chance to try and make a little piece of pottery and with your help – I feel real proud of it. I’ll be so glad to see the finished product.
Betty, I thank you for the little ceramic dish you gave me. I really do treasure things people give me. Betty, I think your are a wonderful person to set up your Be Talma (?) studio as a memorial to your beloved sister – and to make it a place of inspiration for other people.
Betty, the first time I met you at the “Y” I thought to myself – that there sure was mighty good in you – and that you were really worth knowing. I sure was thrilled when you invited me to your home. I’m sure glad to have a friend like you and I feel like I’ve known you for a long time. I think all this club work you do sure is a much needed thing and you sure are a blessing to people.
Betty, the little verse on the cover of this note paper is the way I feel about you and your husband. You have proven to be just like that, and your home has the atmosphere the of the little gifts too. May God bless both of you real good.
With Love and best wishes,
Jeanette Bergman”

Dearest Betty:
We met as casual strangers And in the usual way, We said, "I am pleased to meet you," For want of more to say; But soon there came a feeling That something mighty fine Within my soul was growing, Because your life touched mine.
So as the passing moments Developed into days, I find myself reflecting Upon your kindly ways; And all the time this feeling That something mighty fine Within my soul keeps growing Because your life touched mine.
No matter where I wander, No matter what I do, I'll cherish precious memories Of the days I spent with you; Those memories e'er remind me That something mighty fine Within my soul keeps growing, Because your life touched mine.
Your life of true devotion, And your determined will, Shall be my inspiration To climb the steepest hill, To fight the hardest battle, To keep myself in line, And be a loyal Christian, Because your life touched mine.
With deepest love,
Jeanette Bergman."

Dear Betty,
Here I sit smoking while I'm typing, but I am following advice we heard yesterday and have the biggest ash tray in the house on my desk.
Your program and tea yesterday was so enjoyable and I always enjoy meeting the members of all the clubs.
Congratulations on the 25th Anniversary of the St. Louis Safety Club.
Again, thanks so much.
Sincerely,
Grace Pope."
“The St. Louis Safety Club thanks you for giving your time to come to our party, but--- we don’t understand why you would tell such an old, off-color joke to our group of women. I was embarrassed and feel I owe an apology to every woman there. It had absolutely nothing to do with Safety.
Otherwise we are happy our party was a success and Girls Town is $125.00 richer.
Sincerely
Betty Baron Sec.
St. Louis Safety Club"
