Dorothea B. Hoover Museum, Joplin Historical Society Merge

The Dorothea B. Hoover Museum and its guild will now merge with and be under the Joplin Historical Society.

March 23, 1969 Joplin Historical Society

Includes planning for Joplin’s 96th Birthday celebration. Evelyn Jones is noted as one of the speakers for the meeting. 

April 1968 Joplin Historical Society

Newsletter of the 1968 Spring meeting. Mr. And Mrs. Philip Jones are included in the Hosts and Hostesses List. 

July 1986 Joplin Historical Society

Includes news of upcoming events for the society and news of what's new at the museum.  Also noted are the newly elected officers which includes Philip Jones as Historian. 

November 4, 1967 Joplin Historical Society

Discusses the historical museum and its funding as well as the funding of the Historical Homes History brochures. Evelyn Jones is to give the speeches “History of Joplin’s Earliest Schools” and “Joplin College of Physicians and Surgeons”.

Unusual Piano Donated to Museum

One of four known versions of this very rare harp-shaped Schimmel-Nelson piano is now at the museum. 

Victorian Era Lives in Hoover Museum

This article describes how the museum guild tries to recreate what upper middle class living in the late 1800s would look like. 

Museum Seeks Help with Doll House

Over the last three years, the museum has been working on creating a model of a Victorian style home representative of old Joplin homes. The museum is asking for donations to continue the project.

Portrait Presented to City

The Dorothea B. Hoover Museum received and will display a portrait of John Sergeant, one of the early developers of Joplin.

Pictorial History Shows Proud Heritage

Joplin, a Pictorial History is a book sold by the Joplin Genealogical Society which uses pictures to depict the history of Joplin from 1800 to 1978. 

History of Music Reviewed At City Anniversary Party

Two musicians that have greatly helped Joplin’s music were given special certificates. There was also a small program called “A History of Music in Joplin” that was performed at the celebration. 

The Joplin Anniversary

The Joplin Historical Society sent out invitations to Joplin’s birthday celebration to people with the last name of Joplin nation-wide in an attempt to get the descendants of Joplin’s early founders to attend.
