History of the Joplin Business and Professional Women's Club

Curated by Sara Sargent, 2021-07.

My part of the Business and Professional Woman’s Club contained history from the group. The items I chose to highlight were the oldest yearbook, a history book, and one convention book. Each year, the Business and Professional Woman’s Club would publish a ‘yearbook’ to let the members know what was to be planned for the next year for the club. The chosen yearbook is the oldest yearbook that Missouri Southern has for the Joplin B.P.W.C. There were annual district and state Business and Professional Woman’s Club convention, each person who attended was given a book. This specific book was given out to people who attended the Annual convention of 1988. It gives a rundown of the people who organized the Convention and the events to happen during the convention weekend. It then goes into details for past presidents and current leaders in the group across the state. Next it lists special awards for young new members. Finally, it commemorates all members that passed that year. The history book of the Business and Professional Woman’s Club. This history book is the ‘History of the Missouri Federation of the Business and Professional Woman’s Club Inc. The book gives a detailed introduction to the club for the club year 1967-68.Not listed in this image set, available in the hard copy document, is the middle 136 pages that makeup the bulk of the book. These pages contain the past presidents, progress reports for each district, the past State presidents, and the history of each club from the foundation of the club to 1968 for each club in each district. The exception to this is that the Joplin and most of the Monett group is available. Next, a Map of Missouri by Districts. Also listed is Membership growth expansion and District Conference attendance numbers. Finally, the sights for all past Annual BPWC state conventions. Also included in this box, but not included in the exhibit, were books on how to be anew member, how to run and start you own Business and Professional Woman’s Club branch, and rules and outlines for club leaders to follow.
