MSSU Archives & Special Collections Exhibits: Then and Now

Digital exhibits created by the MSSU Archives and Special Collections department.

Our generation often thinks that they started certain trends. But people have been taking cat photos and Selfies for a long time. The Bailey’s are no different. Within the collection they have several selfies, cat pictures, funny post cards, funny birthday cards, and very embarrassing Christmas cards.

Funny Birthday Card Back

Funny cards have always been around in some form or another. This card was given to someone who clearly is not their grandfather.

                The text in the card

To you who’ve always been so grand in just so many, many ways, this brings a wish for Birthday Joys and gladness through the coming days.

The text written on the back –

  • J-20-47

This card is something of a joke, though I didn’t mean it so. I liked the message so much. I failed to see that it was “Happy Birthday Grand Father” When Daisey got ready to sign it, she said “He can’t read this – to “grandfather”

So this morning – May 20 – I made another trip to town to get another card, which is already in the mail, which I think is a beautiful card the way it is arranged
