Student Worker Training: News and Updates

Guide for training of Library student workers

Updates!

All timesheets are now electronic!

Update 3/2017

Work-study student workers no longer turn in paper timesheets!

Work-Study Students Get Digital Timesheets!

Work-study students have been switched to digital timesheets.

To access your digital timesheet go to Lionet and select the Employee tab.

Then on the left select Employee Menu.

The word Timesheet should be at the top of the page. Make sure to enter all your hours on the correct day and submit by the Friday when timesheets are due.

Adverse Weather Policy

In order to provide an equitable method of handling absences when employees are unable to get to work because of hazardous driving conditions, the following policy is to be followed:

As conditions vary across our region, all employees of the university are encouraged to use their own judgment regarding the safety of getting to and from work in adverse weather conditions. DO NOT PUT YOURSELF IN DANGER.

Employees who are unable to get to work because of hazardous weather conditions should notify their supervisor by calling in or by following the established guideline of their department. In the event that hazardous weather develops during the day, please communicate with your supervisor before leaving so all employees can be accounted for.

  • If you drive to work and the roads are unsafe, do not come to work. Call in and let a supervisor know you are unable to make it to your shift due to hazardous conditions.
  • If the University is closed the Library will be closed.
  • If classes are canceled but the University is open you are expected to show up and work your regular shift.
  • Employees may also call the main Library phone number (417-625-9386) to hear a recorded message as to whether or not the Library is closed and when it will reopen.

Scheduling

Student work schedules will be arranged by the student supervisor. Students will be expected to report to work when scheduled unless prior arrangements have been made with the supervisor.

Punctuality is a basic requirement. If you cannot avoid being late, you must call in to inform your supervisor that you are late and what time you expect to arrive. Being late should be the exception, not the rule.

In the event you need to be absent, please inform your supervisor as soon as you know you will not be able to report during your scheduled work time. If the absence is unexpected, please call your supervisor before, or at least by the time you are scheduled to report. Students must also pre-arrange a work schedule for holidays, when classes are canceled. Do not automatically assume that if classes are canceled, that you do not have to report to work. For reporting during bad weather, please see the Adverse Weather Policy.

Students may not work in excess of 20 hours per week.

Timesheets

Your supervisor sets the schedule; however, it is your responsibility to keep a record of your time worked on a Time Sheet. At the end of each time period, you will be asked to sign a copy of your time sheet for your supervisor to review for accuracy before submitting all time sheets to the Business Office for payment. Failure to log your hours on your time sheet may result in non-payment for those hours. Failure to sign your sheet by the deadline may result in late pay.

Being Late/Missing a shift

If you have an emergency that will cause you to be late or miss your shift, before your shift is scheduled to begin:

1. Call Your Department supervisor, number can be found in Staff Directory. ( Recommend Programming their number into your phone!)

Your call, email, or text must be acknowledged in order to prevent being labeled as a "no call, no show."

If you know you will be late or absent for a shift in advance, you are responsible for notifying your supervisor of the absence and when it will be.

An unexcused absence, i.e. "No call, no show," may be grounds for disciplinary action up to and including dismissal.
