Faculty Services @ Spiva Library

A guide explaining information literacy across the curriculum and the role the library plays in helping students learn how to acquire, manage, analyze, evaluate and use information effectively and ethically to be successful in their careers and life.

Invite a Librarian into your Blackboard Course Site

Please request instruction via this form:  http://libguides.mssu.edu/instructor-request-library-instruction

Bring the library directly into your BlackBoard Course Site with Embedded Library Services.  You choose how deep our services and resources exist in your course.

Level One: The Library Research Guides Button

Every new (newly created as of fall 2013) Blackboard course shell includes the "Library Research Guides" button. This link provides direct access to the homepage of our LibGuides.  To add this button to a BlackBoard course site template (created and saved before fall 2013), please contact Scott Snell, (snell-s@mssu.edu; x9651).

Level Two: Course Menu link to a Customized LibGuide

Customized LibGuides can assist students' research by focusing on the unique topics and resources your research assignments demand. A simple link on your BlackBoard course menu can direct students to this customized LibGuide.  Ask us to create an customized LibGuide for your course or a specific assignment. For instructions on how to add links to currently available LibGuides to your site, SEE: Library Resource Links in Blackboard

Level Three: Discussion Board Thread for Questions

If you use your Blackboard discussion board threads for students' questions, a designated research help thread may be just what you need. Request and add a librarian to your course and that librarian will monitor the discussion thread and answer questions as they arise.

Level Four: Assignments in Partnership with Librarians

Many in-depth research assignments require multiple steps to create that final product.  You can collaborate with a Librarian to develop relevant, foundational assignments to assist students in the research process.  You can also add a Librarian to your course and we will work with you to develop meaningful assignments and provide feedback for students as they progress through the research process.

Level Five: Library Tutorials in Course Content

Many 2-3 minute streaming video tutorials that walk users through how to access library services and basic search strategies have been created by your librarians and are currently found on many of our LibGuides.  We can add tailored videos to your Blackboard course sites upon request.

Level Five: Live/Recorded Instruction Sessions in Blackboard

Librarians are able to provide a virtual face-to-face instruction session for your distance course sections via Blackboard Collaborate.
