Scope and Content

Seven boxes of interviews with veterans for the Library of Congress' Veterans History Project. A majority of these interviews were conducted by Dr. Robert Markman.

18 binders of interview documentation and 11 small boxes of cassette tapes and CDs were transferred from the Powers Museum in April of 2021.

Acquisition Information

Donated as part of the Veterans History Project after the interviews were conducted, 2005-2019.

The second part of the collection was transferred from the Powers Museum in Carthage, Missouri in April of 2021.

Biographical History

"The Veterans History Project of the American Folklife Center collects, preserves, and makes accessible the personal accounts of American war veterans so that future generations may hear directly from veterans and better understand the realities of war."

 

Missouri Southern State University began actively collecting the personal accounts of veterans for the Veterans History Project in 2005 with a call for veterans to participate. This effort would be continued by former faculty member Dr. Robert Markman until 2019.
