The Spiva Library has access to numerous newspaper resources. You have access to campus publications, regional print newspapers, local online newspapers, and major national and international newspapers online. Additionally, you can access microform from historical papers as well as search online newspaper archives. Each of these resources can be located in the labeled tabs.
The Spiva Library provides access to the following newspaper databases:
Contains local, regional, national, and international newspapers including The Joplin Globe, The Kansas City Star, USA Today, and The Guardian. Many newspapers have decades of access as well as current news.
Access to nytimes.com, with current news stories. New users must create an account with their campus email address before accessing the app, TimesMachine, and other features
Provides access to thousands of historical newspapers and archives of local papers including the Joplin Globe (1896-1958), The Carthage Press (1872-1921), and the Jasper County News (1901-1963).
The Library receives four local print newspapers:
Jasper County Citizen (Carl Junction, MO)
The Joplin Globe (Joplin, MO)
The Lawrence County Record (Mt. Vernon, MO)
The Star (El Dorado Springs, MO)
These can be found on the 3rd floor near the Reference Desk, though you are welcome to take and read them anywhere in the Library. We retain the most current issue plus one previous issue.
The Chart is the student newspaper for MSSU. Current and archived print issues can be found in the Library. Current and past articles can be found on The Chart website.
